Qing Ming Festival at Hometown Bukit Bakri Muar
Qing Ming/Tomb Sweeping Day was suppose to fall on April 4 this year. Since nowadays everyone’s working on weekdays no one would be free to go on the day itself so people would normally visit their ancestor’s grave on weekend this time around. Last Sunday March 30, I was back in Muar for the weekend. I followed along my aunts and uncles from my mom’s side to my grandpa’s tomb/grave at Bukit Bakri, Muar for the first time as only my mom goes every year. My grandpa and grandma’s (dad’s side) grave is at the same place as well but my family only visits them on the day itself. Left my grandma’s house at around 10:30am in the morning and that is actually putting myself under the hot sun to burn. In urban areas people would normally do it early in the morning to avoid the sun and the traffic as well. By the time we reached there people were almost leaving so it was pretty weather was pretty decent, no bad traffic. Luckily there’s a palm tree next to my grandpa’s grave. It started off with the usual sweeping of the tomb, offering wine and food to my grandpa. Everyone hold joss-sticks or incense sticks to pay their respect. When it reached mid afternoon, we started burning joss paper. Nowadays they have all sort of form of joss paper. From personal accessories, communication tools, transportations of all sorts from bicycle to cars. You name it they make it. They even have maids too. Hmmm.. I wonder when they are going to invent laptops or ipod since everyone’s caring one. It was kinda hilarious this year as we burned the latest Toyota Model – Camry with a driver in it too for my grandpa. Hope he likes the new model. We even found out that one of the joss paper money being misprinted. So I am suspecting that it should be a collector’s paper. Hope grandpa could keep it as its value would increase in the future. Haha. It all ended before 1pm, with my aunt treating the kids with ice cream. Posted the photos in gallery form, as this is easier to browser through all of them. Kind of impress with the functionality WordPress 2.5 offers. Review to post later.
